GYM & REHABILITATION SYSTEM
DESIGNED FOR SPACE

The Human centrifuge made for space conditioning of astronauts to prevent bone loss, muscle atrophy, sensory motor deconditioning and cardiovascular alteration could have far reaching benefits for traditional rehabilitation and conditioning of persons at all levels of health.

This revolutionary link between gravity and healthy aging is being transferred from space to earth with the centrifuge.  This artificial gravity machine could provide a comprehensive countermeasure capable of improving all the physiological systems at once, particularly when combined with exercise.

The centrifuge is a spinning arm or platform that doubles the gravitational load on the body. The person “exercising” lies on a form fitting pod, head in/feet out, and when spinning at about 20-23 rpm increases the sensation of body weight and receives a benefit equivalent to an hour of normal exercise such as weight lifting.

The gravitational load (G-Forces) beyond 1G can be variable and intermittent and changed from 1 to 5 G's  with speed adjustments from zero to fifty rpm's depending upon the physical needs and conditions of the patient.

GRAVITY THERAPY

PICTURE THIS   …

The centrifuge operates on the principle that the faster something moves (acceleration) the heavier it becomes similar to whirling rides at a fair or amusement park where the user is pinned to their seat. That’s acceleration and hypergravity.

At the speed of 20-23 revolutions per minute the user will experience an additional force equal to Earth’s Gravity. 1G

CENTRIFUGE SYSTEM: NEW IMPROVED FEATURES

Final Generation Prototype With New & Improved Features:

  • 24 “ high cushioned pod for ease of access.

  • Adjustable side rails for safety and boarding from either side.

  • Two adjustable safety belts.

  • Adjustable end bed rail on pod to accommodate various user heights

  • Battery powered drive system.

  • Wireless variable speed control for attendant or user.

  • Hand held wireless control to start, stop and reverse direction with regenerative braking.

  • Unique wheel geometry that eliminates a counter balance arm and weights for single arm operation and rotation in both directions.

  • Center pivot accommodations for one to four arms for multiple person use if desired.

  • Center pivot system mounted on platform for connecting riding arm & drive system.

  • Platform with anti vibration pads for safety and smooth operation of the centrifuge.

  • Platform accommodations for roller bearing inserts for ease of moving centrifuge.

The present invention is a second generation of the centrifuge invention that was developed in 1997. It was a human powered centrifuge, see Patent 5,616,104. Inventors:  Dr. Joan Vernikos & Gerald Mulenburg. The following list are improved features of that invention.
